As a member of my Computer Information Applications class you are eligible to play "Boardroom". While it is not required, it is encouraged as a way to increase your investment in the class and to help find creative ways to learn the course content material. In order to play, you must form a team made up of no more than four other students from within your class period. These teams will resemble project design teams in the corporate world. While each team member might have different responsibilities, all team members are considered equal -- at least in the beginning of the game. As they game progresses, each player will earn points, get salary increases and move up the corporate ladder.
Game Objectives:
Individual Players: To move up the corporate ladder and earn a seat at the board of directors' table and a chance to compete for the Chairman of the Board's seat. A minimum of 30,000 points or successful IC3 Certification is required to be considered.
Teams: To finish the game as the team with the highest point total and win the team prize. Each member of the winning team will receive a pair of VR goggles designed to let them use their cell phone to view 3-D videos.
There will be a point system in which all work completed in my class will help you improve your position and ranking within the company.
POINTS AT A GLANCE
Some ways to earn points: 1. mastering weekly assignments 2. passing IC3 tests 3. performing community service 4. attending tutorial sessions for any ACHS class 5. receiving a promotion by leveling up in the game 6. getting the attention of the chairman of the board by doing something spectacular
Some ways to lose points: 1. performing poorly and getting lunch d-halls (-100 MP) 2. being assigned Thursday school (-200 MP) 3. being required to attend Saturday school (-500 MP) 4. getting the attention of the chairman of the board for really bad reasons (up to -100 MP/event) 5. Getting a grade below a C (-500 MP for regular classes and -1,000 MP for dual credit classes)
Can a player regain lost points? Yes! In the event that a team member loses MP, his teammates may vote to transfer CP from their individual accounts at a rate of 5:1. For example, if a team member loses 100 MP for getting a lunch d-hall, his mates may choose to give up 500 CP in order to erase that debt. Obviously, if no one on the team has earned CP, then there can be no transaction. Clearly, this is an expensive move, so teams should use a lot of discretion in how and when they exercise this option. Transfer of CP must be presented and approved directly by the CEO. In the rare instance that a player continually finds himself/herself in a negative points position, members of his/her team may choose to "kick them off the team" and they will be able to play the game only as an individual from that point forward,
